Winner of the Celebration of the Arts Competition (2006), a Canadian pianist Hyoseon Sunny Kim is enrolled in third year studies of the Performance Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould School, receiving Dean’s Scholarship. As an active soloist and a chamber musician, she has appeared in performance venues such as Mazzoleni Hall, Four Season’s Centre, Gilles-Lefebvre Concert Hall, Warner Concert Hall and Walter Hall and von Kuster Hall to name a few.
Some of her past accomplishments include being a semi-finalist at Knigge Piano Competition (2009), top prizes in Kiwanis Music Festival, Canadian Music Competition and Peel Music Festival at local, provincial and national level, and the Audience Prize Winner at the YAPA Concerto Competition (2006).
Hyoseon’s past teachers include James Anagnoson, Leslie Kinton, Li Wang and Karen Quinton. Moreover, Hyoseon had the privilege to study with some of the world’s most prominent artists including Leon Fleisher, Marc Durand, Andre Laplante, Barry Douglas, Anton Kuerti and John Perry. She has also attended summer music festivals at Orford Academy, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Valdimir Nielsen Piano Festival and Oberlin International Piano Competition and Festival.
Hyoseon Sunny Kim, a native Taejun, Korea began studying piano at the age of five and immediately showed her talent, winning top prizes at local competitions. In year 2000, her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. Here, Ms Kim’s special love and passion for piano significantly grew since enrolling in the Young Artists’ Performance Academy program at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Upon graduating from YAPA program, Hyoseon has completed two years of undergraduate studies in music performance at University of Western Ontario as a recipient of the Continuing Scholarship and Queen Elizabeth Aiming for the Top Scholarship. In year 2008, Hyoseon transferred her studies to the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, where she is currently studying under the instruction of John Perry and David Louie. As a former employee of the Arcadia Academy of Music and currently employed at the Classical Music Conservatory, Hyoseon is also an active music instructor.
