Jazz, Classical and Pop Voice
Shannon Butcher is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Music Faculty with a Bachelor of Music Education in voice. As a teacher Shannon has worked with the Classical Music Conservatory as a private instructor and coach. She also appears as an Artist-in-the-Classroom with the Peel School Board. In 2008 she was appointed to the Vocal Jazz Faculty at National Music Camp.
Shannon is best known for her work with Swing Rosie, the vibrant three-part harmony swing band that Jazz.FM91's Ross Porter, named "a treasure in the Canadian jazz scene." After touring festivals, clubs and theatres for the past four years with Swing Rosie, Shannon has released her solo vocal jazz album Words We Both Could Say - an open door invitation to fuse styles and transcend expectations with her jazz twists on hits from a variety of artists including the Beatles, Patsy Cline, No Doubt and Tears for Fears. The album has been getting glowing reviews and is in high rotation on jazz stations across the globe and right here in Toronto as a favourite spin of Jazz.FM91. With her busy performance schedule Shannon has shared the stage with Molly Johnson, Sophie Milman and the late Oscar Peterson.
