Violin, Viola
Winnipeg-born violinist, Elizabeth Loewen, began taking lessons at the age of four with "Suzuki in the Beaches" (Toronto). She has studied with Laurie Mitchell, Arkady Yanivker, Xiao Grabke, and Mark Fewer. During high school Elizabeth participated in the Young Artists Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and performed with Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra from 1996-2001, completing her final season as the Assistant Concertmaster. She was also been a participant in several summer music festivals, including, Courtenay Youth Music Centre, Festival International du Domaine Forget, Agassiz Music Festival and Kincardine Summer Music Festival. Through these programs, Elizabeth had the opportunity to work with prominent teachers and performers such as Martin Beaver, Roman Borys, Lise Elson, Simon Fryer, Erika Raum, David Stewart, and David Zafer.
Elizabeth is a National Scholar of the University of Toronto, where she is a performance major at the Faculty of Music. Entering her final year, Elizabeth has had many exciting performance opportunities since beginning her undergraduate studies. She appeared as soloist with Jeunesse Youth Orchestra (2002), has performed in masterclasses for the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Scott St. John and Pamela Frank, and had the pleasure of touring Japan and Hong Kong with the 2002 National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama. In 2003 her string quartet was accepted to participate in the Chamber Music Summer Session at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts, and at the Orford Summer Festival, working with Laurence Lesser, Marcel St.-Cyr, and Terry Helmer, in preparation for a concert in the Festival of the Sound.
Elizabeth is an active performer and teacher. She has taught at Durham School of Music, and has maintained a private studio throughout high school and university. Elizabeth is looking forward to working with the faculty and students at the Classical Music Conservatory.
