Stéphanie Pesant, B.MUS/B.ED(MUS.ED) University of Saskatchewan; M.Mus (Flute Performance), University of Toronto

flute, clarinet, saxophone

Stéphanie Pesant's flute career took off from the age of fourteen when she entered the Oilsands Rotary Music Festival in her hometown of Fort McMurray Alberta. Each year she competed, Stéphanie was awarded numerous prizes including Best Woodwind Performer, Runner-up for the Grand Rose Bowl Prize, as well as bursaries to attend the provincial music camp Musicamrose. Stéphanie was also recommended to represent the local festival in the Alberta Provincial competition. While residing in Alberta, Stéphanie won a position with the Alberta Honour Band for three consecutive years.

Upon graduation, Stéphanie moved to Saskatchewan where she studied flute performance and music education at the University of Saskatchewan. For four consecutive years Stéphanie was principal flute in the University Wind Orchestra where she was both section leader and piccolo player. While under the instruction of Randi Nelson, Stéphanie had the opportunity to play in master classes with Timothy Hutchins (l'Orchestre symphonique de Montréal) and Susan Hoeppner (University of Toronto), to name a few. In May 2005, Stéphanie graduated with an honours degree in Flute Performance and in Music Education.

After completing her Bachelors degree, Stéphanie moved to Vancouver where she studied privately with Brenda Fedoruk (University of British Columbia). In Vancouver, Stephanie remained an active performer by producing a solo album of various flute works and performing with the Capilano College Wind Ensemble. Stéphanie also competed in the Kiwanis Music Festival where she was awarded first place in two of her classes and was recommended to the provincial competition.

Stéphanie has presented flute clinics throughout western Canada and continues to be in demand as a clinician locally. She recently completed her Masters in Flute Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Camille Watts (Toronto Symphony Orchestra).  Already, Stéphanie is active as a chamber musician founding The Aurum Ensemble – a flute and guitar duo.  She currently holds the position of second flute in Orchestra Toronto, which performs regularly at the Toronto Centre for the Arts.  In addition to performing, Stephanie also acts as the Classical Music Conservatory’s Woodwind Specialist where she is looking forward to teaching both Orff and Musical Preludes classes in addition to her regular private students this upcoming year.  She is very excited and enthusiastic for the opportunity to share her passion for music and her elementary music training with young children and is eager to help develop a strong Orff program exclusive to the CMC.
