What is Musical Preludes?
Musical Preludes is a music program for children, designed to introduce your young child (1 to 5 years old) to the wonderful world of music. The course includes the basic elements of music, rhythm and pitch as well as our unique live demonstrations of various musical instruments for ages 2 and up. 3-5 year olds will also learn the beginnings of how to read music and basic musical notation.
What makes this program different from others?
For ages 2 and up, our Musical Preludes teachers give instrument demonstrations throughout the term, where instruments such as the violin, cello, or clarinet are shown to the children, talked about how they work, and played for them. The children are also given an opportunity for a hands-on experience with each instrument - an opportunity to try out a small size cello, for example, or to press the keys of a flute being played to see how the pitch changes. These opportunities allow your child to be drawn to the instrument of their choice.
No one else offers this course, because we created Musical Preludes!Musical Preludes! The aim of MP courses is to instill the love of music while teaching them the basics of music, and to also prepare our young students for private instrumental music lessons.
Musical Preludes is offered as a 12 week course, with age-appropriate introductions to these basic music principles:
FAST - SLOW
HIGH - LOW
LOUD - SOFT
We explore these principles in five ways:
1. Traditional children's songs, rhymes, action songs, circle games and kneeplays.
2. Movement
3. Sung stories or stories about music or sound
4. The use of simple instruments
5. Live instrumental demonstrations
The structure of the class will be emphasized through repetition, since this is how young children learn, through familiarities.

When is Musical Preludes offered?
Musical Preludes is offered as follows:
0 - 12 months (NEW):
10:30am - 11:00am Thursdays
12 - 24 months:
9:30am - 10:00am Fridays OR saturdays
2 and 3 year olds:
10:30am - 11:15am Tuesdays OR Fridays OR saturdays
3 to 5 year olds:
9:30am - 10:15am Tuesdays
OR
1:00-1:45pm Fridays OR 2:00-2:45pm Fridays OR 11:30am-12:15pm Saturdays
Each session is a 12 week course of 45 minute classes.
Cost of Musical Preludes:
$180 for 1 session (12 week session each).
$120 for 0 - 24 months & for the 8 week Spring session starting April 16th-June 4th, 2007.
If you sign up for 2 or more sessions, you will receive 10% off.
Each additional sibling of the same family also receive a 10% discount.
MUSICAL PRELUDES COURSES WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING WEEKS:
FALL: Week of Sept 18th - Dec 4th, 2006
WINTER: Week of Jan 8th - April 2nd, 2007
SPRING 8 week session: Week of April 16th - June 4th, 2007
