Since studying piano at the age of three, Matthew has been surrounded by music his entire life.
As a Toronto-based saxophonist, Matthew is quickly establishing himself in the local jazz scene. He has performed with many local and international artists, such as Kelly Jefferson, Pat LaBarbera, Terry Clarke, William Carn, Brian O’Kane, New York’s Tim Ries, New York’s Ben Monder, and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra’s Victor Goines, Vincent Gardner, Dan Nimmer and Ali Jackson.
Matthew has also performed extensively across the province. Notable performance venues and festivals include Koerner Hall, Jazzlives 2008, 2009, and 2011 at Convocation Hall, Musicfest Canada 2009 (Markham), the Markham Jazz Festival, the Oshawa Jazz Festival, the Beaches International Jazz Festival, and several performances at The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar.
Although primarily a saxophonist, Matthew has a wealth of jazz and classical experience playing piano, trumpet, trombone, electric bass, and almost every instrument in the woodwind family. As a result, he has accumulated a vast knowledge of several instruments and their unique characteristics and functionality.
Matthew loves to teach. He is a dedicated teacher who looks forward to working with and helping his students accomplish their musical ambitions.
